App State Information Technology Services (ITS), in partnership with the Chancellor’s AI Task Force, would like to share the following update about artificial intelligence (AI) campus resources and initiatives.
Launching a new website: ai.appstate.edu
App State’s recently launched AI website, ai.appstate.edu, serves as the university’s centralized location for AI tools, training and resources. It is designed to support teaching and learning, along with research and administrative work for faculty, staff and students, and includes these resources
Approved university tools and training and learning resources
Guidance on best practices and responsible use of AI, including existing university policies
Use cases for faculty, staff and students
This site, ai.appstate.edu, will be routinely updated to respond to changing needs and the latest AI information and guidance.
Thank you for your input!
ITS received insightful feedback from the survey included in our March 26 Enhancing AI literacy at App State message.
We learned that your top interests are:
Available tools and their purposes for real-world application and use cases
University policy and guidance
Training and development opportunities, especially ones that are asynchronous or self-paced
Student support resources, including literature and documentation
The environmental impacts and ethical implications of AI
Increased communication around AI and these topical areas
Your input matters and will inform university strategy around the topic of AI. ITS will continue to collaborate with campus partners to evaluate and expand resources for the university and on the App State AI website.
Campus AI initiatives
AI Enablement Team
ITS has formed an AI Enablement Team with the primary objectives of:
Promoting AI literacy: Create educational opportunities around AI concepts, applications and ethical considerations.
Enhancing teaching and learning: Leverage effective AI tools for the academic enterprise.
Supporting research: Facilitate AI-driven research across various disciplines and areas of excellence.
Enhancing administrative efficiency: Implement AI tools to streamline administrative processes.
Fostering innovation: Encourage the development of AI-based solutions to address real-world challenges.
To get involved or share suggestions for the team, contact Tom Van Gilder, deputy CIO and chief operations officer, at vangildertm@appstate.edu.
AI collaborative working group for faculty and staff
The Office of Research and Innovation has convened a collaborative working group with University Libraries and ITS to explore innovative ways to enhance grant-seeking and proposal-writing processes through the use of AI resources.
This initiative aims to identify relevant tools and to empower faculty and staff to navigate funding opportunities, streamline proposal development and boost research success.
To get involved, contact Karen Fletcher, fletcherkl@appstate.edu, director of grants resources and services.
New AI graduate concentrations
The Walker College of Business will launch two AI concentrations this fall in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Science in Applied Data Analytics (MSADA) graduate programs.
These concentrations align with industry demand and will prepare students for AI-driven decision-making, strategy and governance.
Beginning this fall, all MBA and MSADA students, regardless of their concentration, will take Applied AI and Quantitative Methods in Business — a core course that will equip students with foundational AI knowledge and skills.
For more information, visit Walker College of Business’s graduate programs page or contact the Office of Advanced Studies in Business at 828-262-2922.
AI learning community for faculty and staff
The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning for Student Success (CETLSS) and ITS have partnered to form Artificial Intelligence for App State Instruction (AI4AI), a learning community focused on exploring AI and related technologies to support teaching and learning, online and in the classroom.
This group meets monthly, and meetings typically consist of a brief demonstration(s) and open discussion.
Co-facilitated by Derek Eggers, CETLSS, and Michelle Melton, ITS.
To get involved, fill out this AI for App State Instruction interest form.
We encourage you to explore ai.appstate.edu, and we will seek additional feedback in the fall. Thank you for your continued engagement. Together, the university community can drive responsible and informed AI innovation at App State.
