App State Wins 2026 Cyber Bowl

Appalachian State University made a strong showing in this year’s Cyber Bowl. In our first year competing, App State placed first in total number of players and second in participation percentage among the ten North Carolina universities in the competition.

A total of 3,430 Mountaineers turned out to play, outperforming second-place UNC-Chapel Hill by an impressive 44%. App State also secured second place for total campus community representation, with a stellar 14.29% of our campus body participating.

The Cyber Bowl ran from October 1 to October 31 as part of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Students, faculty and staff took a short quiz on topics like passwords, phishing, malware and online privacy, and each completed quiz earned a point for App State.

Those numbers reflect a lot of Mountaineers taking a few minutes to learn how to protect their identities, data and the university. Cybersecurity is a shared responsibility, and this result shows how seriously our campus takes it.
