Self-Service Banner 8 (SSB8), including all related screens and links, will be permanently deactivated on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026.
Many university employees and students have relied on long-standing processes and existing browser bookmarks in SSB8. All users must fully transition to the updated and supported Self-Service Banner 9 (SSB9) applications to avoid interruption to their critical duties.
Why is this happening?
Ellucian, the university’s Banner vendor, updated the Self-Service platform to provide a modern, mobile-friendly interface with increased security. SSB8 is no longer supported and cannot receive federal or regulatory updates. This poses security risks to the university's administrative data and, therefore, must be decommissioned.
Action checklist: Transition to SSB9
Take the following actions to ensure a smooth transition:
Update SSB8 bookmarks: Review your web browser favorites. Delete or update any browser bookmarks pointing directly to old Banner 8 pages, such as Class Schedule Search or Advisee Listing. These links will cease to function on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2026.
Access SSB9: Access the current Self-Service platform at appalnet.appstate.edu or bannerweb.appstate.edu.
Review resources: We have created comprehensive guides for the new platform, covering core functions and frequently asked questions:
Additional related resources can be found in our Knowledge Base under Banner Self-Service and Admin Articles.
The Self-Service platform includes many roles (i.e., Employee, Faculty and Advisors, etc.) and functions (i.e., Finance and Timesheets, etc.). If you need assistance transitioning or have specific questions, contact the related business office or the ITS Help Desk at 828-262-6266, weekdays, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
Thank you for your cooperation as we complete this critical upgrade to a core campus system.
