Understanding the IT Acquisition Process at App State
This workshop is designed to help faculty and staff navigate Appalachian State University's IT Acquisition process for software and hardware. We’ll walk through key steps, explain when a review is needed, share tips for submitting clear, complete requests and explore possible procurement options. Whether you're requesting tools for teaching, research, or operations, this session will help you save time and avoid common roadblocks. Ideal for new faculty and staff, or anyone looking to refresh their understanding of the IT acquisition process.
How Content Migrates from Moodle into Canvas
This is an in-person session.
Making the jump from Moodle to Canvas doesn't have to be daunting, and this workshop is here to help you get your bearings in the new LMS. We’ll take a high-level tour of the interface, translate familiar Moodle terms, and look at the big picture of organizing your course content using Modules. You'll also learn how to clean up your course navigation for a better student experience and use Student View to ensure everything is properly published. By the end of the session, you'll have a solid roadmap of the platform and the confidence to start building your own course site.
We’ll categorize course components into three clear buckets:
- Elements that migrate (relatively) seamlessly
- Items that migrate, but will require review
- Activities that will need to be rebuilt
- Wed, Sept. 23, 9–10 a.m.
- Tues, Sept. 29, 2–3 p.m.
Designing Accessible Pages in Canvas
This workshop gives instructors a clear, practical foundation for building course content that all students can navigate. In this workshop we will focus on structuring pages with meaningful headings, writing concise and descriptive alt text, choosing readable colors and layouts, and using YuJa Panorama to identify and fix common accessibility issues. Participants learn how thoughtful page design reduces cognitive load, improves screen‑reader navigation, and creates a more equitable learning experience across devices. Faculty will leave with straightforward techniques they can apply immediately to make their Canvas courses more intuitive, consistent, and accessible for every learner.
