Google Storage Limitations

Google is ending unlimited storage for all higher education institutions.

Storage quotas will be set on all App State accounts on March 28, 2024, and Google Photos will be turned off for employees and discontinued for students.

  • Employee accounts will be limited to 200GB.

  • Student accounts will be limited to 50GB.

  • Shared drives will have a storage limit of 100GB each.

  • Generic Google accounts will have a storage limit of 10GB.

Check your Google storage and remove unnecessary files

Here’s how you can clean up your storage.

  1. Navigate to drive.google.com/drive/quota. Your total storage amount is listed with a breakdown for Drive, Gmail and Photos.

  2. Sort your files by storage used.

  3. Review large files and delete dated or duplicate content.

  4. Employees who need Google Photos storage for academic or business needs may request access by submitting a Computer Assistance Support Ticket.

  5. Move personal content (i.e., photos and music) to a personal cloud storage account or storage device.

For further instructions, review our Knowledge Base article on Google Storage.

Student Reminder:
Your Google account is valid as long as you are enrolled. After your last attended semester, access to your Google account is extended for one year.

Note for Faculty & Staff: Members of ITS Support will contact high-impact users who are significantly over the proposed quotas to assist in reducing Google storage.
