Information Technology Services (ITS) is modernizing the university network by upgrading wired and wireless infrastructure. This modernization will address risks — including security vulnerabilities, reliability and compliance — while increasing speed and efficiency.
Rollout plan
ITS has established a building-by-building schedule (that will evolve) to implement the networking changes across the university. We continue to deliver necessary equipment to buildings across campus and conduct testing to ensure a smooth transition.
For most users, this transition should be seamless with little to no impact. If an issue arises, ITS will have dedicated staff and a clear reporting and resolution process.
As we prepare to upgrade a building, ITS will notify key contacts one week in advance.
New network connections
As part of this upgrade, wireless network names (SSIDs) will change:
asu and asu-secure will become eduroam
asu-visitor will become APPSTATE-GUEST
Eduroam is a secure, global Wi-Fi service. It allows App State students and employees to use their university login to access a free internet connection at any participating institution worldwide.
Support
Follow these instructions for connecting personal devices in converted buildings.
University-issued or managed devices will automatically connect, or follow these instructions to select eduroam from network settings.
To report any connectivity issues, submit an App State Network Issues ticket.
For questions, contact the ITS Help Desk at 828-262-6266, weekdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or email support@appstate.edu.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to deliver this much-needed upgrade for our university community.
