Enterprise Applications

Enterprise Applications (EA) provide faculty, staff and students with applications that assist them in their day to day activities on campus. The primary goal of the Enterprise Applications Group is to provide the support required to operate the Ellucian Banner Application System for Appalachian State University.

EA offers broad assistance for application operations and are responsible for determining standards and best practices, as well as application security.

Departments

Academic/Student (STAAR):

The Academic/Student Team (STAAR) configures and supports the following Banner modules:

  • Student, Advancement,
  • Accounts Receivable,
  • Financial Aid,
  • Faculty & Advisor Self-Service,
  • Registration Self-Service and Student Self-Service.

In addition, the group manages Banner custom software development and process enhancements for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, University Advancement and Emergency Services. We oversee the technical challenges of Enrollment Management (Admissions, Registration, Student Records, Financial Aid, etc.) and assist with the implementation of university and system-wide academic policies and initiatives.

The STAAR group provides Banner integration solutions for multifarious external software applications including Slate, Reeher, StarRez and CSGold.  

Business/Operations (FAST):

The Financial Applications Support Team (FAST) supports

  • Banner Human Resources,
  • Banner Payroll,
  • Employee Self-Service,
  • Banner Finance,
  • Finance Self-Service,
  • AIMS Parking and Traffic,
  • Yo-Mart,
  • Intellecheck,

  • other applications.

Database Administration and Support (DASH):

The DASH team administers and supports the Ellucian Banner Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and other dependent enterprise systems. The team governs Oracle Grid Infrastructure, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Real Application Clusters, DataGuard and all Oracle databases. Additionally, the team oversees the Microsoft SQL Server databases and related applications.

The DASH team ensures the security, availability, and technical currency of all systems under its purview.

Enterprise Application Administration (EAA):

The EAA team administers auxiliary softwares around campus that integrate with Banner.  This includes administering permissions, patches and upgrades, API links to Banner and other auxiliary softwares. Another major aspect of this team is the cross training done within the team to eliminate single points of failure and that the softwares working knowledge is not lost when a job becomes vacant.

Identity & Access Management (IAM):

The IAM team ensures the security and governs the accessibility for campus data resources. IAM administers the Bravura IAM software, which allocates account entitlements to LDAP, AD, Duo and Google as well as handling password administration. As part of its Banner Administration and Reporting Group (BARS) responsibilities, IAM manages Banner ERP user maintenance and security.

BARS also provides security for WebFocus, ODS, and various other campus applications. Additionally, the IAM team assists in supervising Duplicate PIDM and Username Change requests.
