What We Know
The University of North Carolina System Board of Governors unanimously approved a resolution on Thursday, July 24, 2025 (PDF, 241 KB), to standardize the use of a single, unified LMS across all institutions in the UNC System.
The UNC System has selected Canvas by Instructure as the LMS platform.
This will be a multi-year transition project.

Platform management: While App State administrators can adjust certain local settings, Instructure controls the primary interface, feature availability and core settings.
Updates: Instructure maintains a consistent release schedule for new features, bug fixes and system enhancements.
Customization: Most major functionality changes are determined by the vendor to ensure platform stability.

Instructure historically maintains >99.99% uptime for the Canvas platform. If you experience issues accessing courses, use the following resources:

App State systems status dashboard: Check for App State-specific outages or login issues.
