Project Overview

App State is moving to a mobile credential and ID solution (with Apple Wallet and Android).

  • Phase 1 is moving to a new card/ID management platform. 
  • Phase 2 will be issuing a mobile ID (instead of a physical ID card) to students and staff. 

Mobile ID will be optional for continuing students and staff.  It will be *mandatory* for every class of incoming students beginning in Fall 2025.

Project Details 

A unified campus ID with mobile credentialing:

  1. Allows students, faculty and staff the convenience of navigating campus transactions using their mobile devices – an increasing expectation among students.  

  2. Is an eco-friendly alternative to the traditional physical plastic card.

  3. Allows App State to expand a secure mobile ID option across campus including physical access to spaces over the next several semesters.

What is a mobile ID or mobile credential?  

  • A mobile ID or mobile credential is electronic identification stored on a mobile device. This allows you to make transactions, access spaces, scan into events and more with your mobile phone rather than a plastic card.  

What if I need a physical card?  

  • Mobile ID will work with Android and iPhones and works with Apple Wallet, Google Wallet and Samsung Wallet.  In the event of an extenuating circumstance or an incompatible device, students can request a physical card instead of mobile ID at the CS Express Office.    

When will I be able to use a mobile ID? 

  • We plan to implement the mobile ID in the summer of 2025 for new students and other patrons who wish to change from a physical card can opt-in.  

  • More information to come as we expand the use of mobile ID across campus for additional applications.
